Les Frères Corses was written by Dumas Père in 1845. Set in the year 1841 in Corsica and Paris, Dumas visits one twin brother in Corsica, then the second in Paris. When the Parisian twin is killed in a duel, the Corsican twin comes to Paris to avenge his death. Dumas was a major playwright who helped to revolutionize French drama and theater. He was one of the best historical novelists, publishing more than two hundred novels. Among his best know works: Les Trois Mousquetaires 1844 (translated to English in 1846 as The Three Musketeers), Le Comte de Monte-Cristo 1845 (translated to English in 1846 as The Count of Monte-Cristo), and La Tulipe Noire 1850 (translated to English in 1851 as The Black Tulip). His son, Alexandre Dumas fils, wrote several important novels including La Dame aux Camélias, the basis of Verdi's opera La Traviata. |
