| General Fitzhugh Lee was the grandson of Henry (Light Horse Harry) Lee and the nephew of Confederate Commander in Chief Robert E. Lee. He was educated at West Point (1856); resigned his commission from the US Army to fight for the South. During the Civil War he was a distinguished commander of the Confederate Cavalry and became a Major General at the age of 28.
