--Templar Origins-- The original Knights Templar was the first Catholic priests/monks given permission by the Pope, 'to kill'. The Crusades made these monks very powerful and rich; in fact, they became even more popular and powerful than the Pope.

The Knights Templar and how the Pope finally brought the group to their demise is a fascinating story but it is long and best left for another time. Another fascinating story in book form by John Robinson, "Born in Blood - The Lost Secrets of Freemasonry", ties the old Knights Templar in with the origins of the Freemason's (more about this in the Masonic group).

I edited a TV show, "In Search of Ancient Mysteries" with Leonard Nimoy, about the Knights Templar many years ago and thus, became fascinated with the history of Fraternalism and Secret Orders.
