General Hugh Mercer...Dr. Mercer practiced medicine for fifteen years in Fredericksburg, VA.
He left his practice to join the Revolutionary army and died as a Brigadier General at the Battle of Princeton. Legend has it that Mercer was bayoneted several times by the British and not wanting to leave his troops, rested under the oak tree while the battle was fought. |
