Robert Emmet  (1778-1803)
Poet, Patriot, Painter, Orator, Romantic & Revolutionary

Many books, songs and poems have been written about the Irish Revolutionary. Several bios have stated that he did write poetry and painted but I have yet to find any examples of his work.

His famous speech "From the Dock" right before he was executed cemented his iconism to the world.

Excerpt:
"Let no man write my epitaph.......Let my memory be left in oblivion and my tomb remain uninscribed until other times and other men can do justice to my character. When my country takes her place among the nations of the earth, then, and not till then, let my epitaph be written."

Emmet's good friend Thomas Moore wrote this ballad:
"Bold Robert Emmet, the darling of Erin
Bold Robert Emmet died with a smile
I will lay down my life for the Emerald Isle."
